I am Sajjad Baghaee (Alper Alioğlu), a researcher and engineer specializing in Internet of Things (IoT), communication networks, and smart city technologies. My work brings together academic research, industrial innovation, and real-world deployment, with a focus on creating intelligent and sustainable infrastructures for the cities and networks of the future.
I serve as the Principal Investigator and Senior IoT Engineer at JeoIT (evolved.city), where I lead the design and execution of advanced R&D projects in sustainable urban technologies, spatial data analytics, and digital twins. At JeoIT, I drive innovation at the intersection of IoT hardware, communication protocols, and large-scale deployments, ensuring that research outcomes translate into practical and scalable solutions for smart environments.
Alongside this, I am the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at FreshData Technologies, where I focus on Age of Information (AoI)-driven solutions for smart grids, real-time monitoring, and energy efficiency. In this role, I translate complex academic concepts—such as AoI-aware flow control and reinforcement learning—into market-ready technologies that enhance the reliability, resilience, and sustainability of urban infrastructures.
In parallel with my industry leadership, I work as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Middle East Technical University (METU). My academic research focuses on time-sensitive communication, congestion control, and flow optimization for next-generation IoT and space networks. At METU, I contribute to projects that bridge theoretical frameworks with experimental testbeds and simulations, advancing the frontiers of IoT, wireless communication, and delay-tolerant networking.
I hold a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, with a specialization in telecommunications. This academic foundation allows me to combine cross-disciplinary insights with hands-on expertise, tackling challenges from LoRa/LoRaWAN communication to reinforcement learning-based HVAC control and delay/disruption-tolerant networking (DTN) for space systems.

I actively contribute to national and international R&D programs, including the TÜBİTAK 1004 SUIT Platform, the Eurostars MOAF-DiT Project, and collaborative research with TU Delft, Eindhoven University of Technology, and Middle East Technical University (METU). These projects bring together academia and industry to develop scalable digital twin frameworks, intelligent communication strategies, and sustainable IoT solutions.
Beyond my technical and leadership roles, I contribute to the academic community as a reviewer for IEEE journals and conferences, helping to shape the future of communication networks and IoT research by maintaining rigorous standards of quality and innovation.
Through my work across JeoIT, FreshData, and METU, my mission is to design and implement resilient, future-ready IoT infrastructures that enable smarter cities, more efficient energy systems, and reliable communication networks—whether on Earth or in deep-space applications.
